How I can remove from my main computer on my home network?

Hi I have a basic home network is connected off a desk to a router and a laptop is connected wirelessly to the network. My two printers (laser and inkjet), external hard drive connected the main desk. The problem is I have to turn on the desk all the time for me to access the printer and external hard drive on my laptop wirelessly. Is there an easier way to ignore my main computer, so you have to activate all the time, and I have my 2 printers and external harddrives directly connected to the network? Is there an inexpensive device that I can use as an alternative to having to open my desk all the time?

you could try a USB to RJ45 adapter to the outside, but to have the printers available, would need a print server. They are cheap so it's not much of an investment. It's just a small box, in most cases not much bigger than a deck of cards. The print server "hanging" out of your router or switch.
