Mac tips for filmmakers update?
I have a PowerBook G4 using OSX 10.3.9 and need to update in a bad way … I mainly I use my computer to edit videos for sale / photos to our business and accounting with QuickBooks and Quicken Pro5. Also I have to upgrade my video camera and printer / scanner. I wonder if the iBook is capable of pixels I'm looking to pull stills from my video quality or if it is more a reflection of the recording original? Is the camera or the computer more important? It is a high definition camera worth the money? I use a MiniDV right now, I love the ease of the program iMovie is the comparable new program as easy to use? My iDVD has always been a pain, I can not even burn DVDs and when it does work can only be read by other Macs. Not good for business. In addition, there is an external drive that can store all my information management, how big and how difficult it is to transfer files and update the program. Ugh, sounds like a huge undertaking, right? Help! Thanks
The MacBook works fine for what you want. The film quality depends on the camera. I have a Canon MiniDV and use iMovie. It works fine. As for pull-quality still images, it also depends on the camera. The new iMovie is so easy to use as the previous version, is actually less intense version allowing less audio layers. The iDVD program also works well. I can record DVDs to PCs, DVD players, etc other Macs, that all the work. There is no problem of compatibility with DVD. You can use iDVD to burn videos to a format high definition to fit the new size high definition screen. Regular definition movies would be, but it fits the screen. If you have the money, get a MacBook Pro with a bigger screen. If you do not mind the 13 "screen, get a normal MacBook, but raise that level to double the RAM, a larger hard drive large and SuperDrive for burning DVDs. There is still no internal HD Blue Ray burner / player for a MacBook. They use too much electricity and battery drain, but I imagine one would soon. As for backups, Apple has a new device called a Time Capsule. Airport is a wireless network and backup unit (1 TB). The MacBook can be configured to automatically back up all files with Time Machine that comes with Mac OS X Leopard.
