setting up a printer wirelessly without wifi or bluetooth?

I’m going to college in a couple of days and was planning on using my printer over wifi (since there is not enough room on my desk for the printer.) However, i just found out that the dorms i am staying in have no wifi. My printer does not have bluetooth built in and it is on the other side of the room. I could always take my laptop over to the printer and plug it in to print each time, but that is kind of annoying. My question is: would setting up a computer-to-computer network from my macbook pro work? would it be able to connect with my printer that way? (its a canon pixma mp640)

Basically, yes, you can setup what is called an ad-hoc printer networking environment. This allows you to connect wirelessly using the WiFi capabilities of the printer and your laptop to talk to each other directly. You don’t need any other WiFi network or capabilities anywhere.

You should use password protection when setting it up to prevent others in the dorm from gaining access to the printer as well. I’ve included a few links below that discuss this option and gives instructions on how to implement it.
