Thermal paper grades: Overview
Given the numerous applications of thermal paper, the leading manufacturer of thermal paper introduce its own classification system based on the industry sector they serve and the specific uses for their products.
thermal paper grades, therefore, are determined by the manufacturers. They use their own terminology, with terms such as super high-grade or grade, but when it comes to differences between different manufacturers, much will depend on who their suppliers.
When talking about degrees of thermal paper, usually passes the classification system of Alpha which means that the higher the number, the greater the degree (or in the case of thermal paper, the greater the resistance and stability).
For example, a rating of 300 alpha refers to the thermal paper used for the gas station receipts and other documents with a short life span (which simply means that people tend to throw these away almost as soon as you receive them, so a high quality paper is not important). A classification Alpha 900, by contrast, is relate to the paper used for prescriptions and who should have a longer storage life (usually around seven to ten years).

Criteria for grades of thermal paper
In terms of types of thermal paper, one of several criteria is the base: base of standard paper, thin paper base, base of the film and board base paper.
Another criterion is the resistance. Has high heat resistance, high resistance to ultraviolet light, super high sensitivity, high heat resistance, excellent point of production, and some others. Heat resistance ranges from 60 to 100 degrees Celsius.
The thickness is another aspect to consider. Thickness ranges from 64 to 190 mm. The weight of the thermal paper is part of the determination of their grade. Weights can vary from 55 to 170 grams.
What the thermal paper is used to determine also the degree. For example, do you need to print parking tickets, food tickets, train tickets and aircraft or industrial use tags? Obviously, industrial labels require a higher grade of thermal paper.
As for life, a greater degree, the higher the shelf. And you can even extend the life of the document by storing it carefully – some manufacturers say the storage of high-grade heat documents in a dark place with moderate humidity and temperature recommended to take perform at a satisfactory level of at least three years from the date they were manufactured.
The degree of thermal paper will also determine the degree of durability or what the industry paper calls fade resistance. Obviously, the higher the grade, the greater the resistance. Those with superior resistance usually manufactured with special stains and co-reactive technologies to produce images. Care should be taken however not to over-expose prolonged thermal paper to UV rays and fading can occur.
It is recommended that no matter how high the rate of thermal paper, steps must be taken to protect them from contact with plastic wrap, adhesives, industrial adhesives, toner damp, and copies of certain types of carbon paper.
Niche manufacturers
If you visit the websites of the thermal paper manufacturers or dealers, their descriptions of thermal paper products vary. For example, a thermal European paper manufacturer claims that its standard types of paper are guaranteed at least readability of five years. The same manufacturer can also accommodate guests' requests for special papers with the shelf life of 99 years, but such is requested in advance. These 99-year thermal papers should be stored in appropriate conditions – usually 20 degrees Celsius ambient temperature, 50% relative humidity and definitely no direct exposure to sunlight.
Some manufacturers also specialize in thermal paper used for POS systems: most of them are rolls of two layers for a wide range of POS systems.
Equipment Manufacturers original thermal printers impose strict specifications of thermal paper. The type of thermal paper that will be produced depends on the model or brand of printer. Specifications may cover the base, weight, thickness, softness and the degree of gloss, stiffness and resistance to tear and fade. The picture quality also plays a role key role in the classification of heat, and the cutting test.
Whatever the degree of suitability of the application must have priority. If you run a grocery store, for example, you do not buy thermal paper to print 99 years just check out the income. If you run a pharmacy and the need to print prescriptions that may be subject to a criminal investigation must have a higher rate of grade thermal paper – the kind that would last at least 10 years. Not only should keep up to date, but should be able to preserve what the image is printed on them
